The Hudson County Improvement Authority's (HCIA) mission is simple: To provide a wide range of needed services to the residents and businesses of Hudson County at the least cost to taxpayers. Since the inception of the HCIA, an autonomous public agency with broad responsibilities in solid waste management, recycling, affordable housing and transportation management in Hudson County, Hudson County's recycling rate has increased from three percent to more than 55 percent.
The HCIA works consistently to educate both residents and businesses alike on the benefits of recycling. The HCIA's recycling division has offered 45-minute audience participation presentations to the majority of the public, private and parochial schools in the County. The same division has also awarded more than 200 mini-grants to various not-for-profit organizations in Hudson County. The HCIA's Household Hazardous Collection program has also collected more than three million pounds of hazardous waste from residents throughout the County.
